How should I dress for the treatment?

For assessment and treatment, underwear or running shorts and bra are appropriate. During treatment we drape your body with a sheet to help maintain your privacy.

What are the benefits of massage?

Any type of massage you receive at the clinic will improve health.  The effects of your treatment will be related to your needs and condition.  But, generally speaking, massage promotes better circulation, stress and tension reduction, increased flexibility and range of motion, improved sleep, aids the body in absorption of nutrients and elimination of wastes, and boosts the body’s self-correciton and healing capacity.

What’s expected of me, in preparation for, and following the massage?

On your first visit, we ask that you arrive approximately 15 mins. early in order to fill out a medical history form.  Following a massage, your body will be flushing wastes (toxins) and doing some rebalancing, so we recommend that you drink water afterwards.  Following your treatment, your  therapist will discuss your condition with you and advise you on what you should do, or not do, to continue improving.  We welcome all your questions both in the clinic and between appointments.

Once I start getting massages, how often do I need to return?

Appointments are set according to the condition being addressed.  When treatment of injury or imbalance is the issue, the intervals are initially shorter and more frequent than once healing and balance occurs.

When health maintenance is the goal, a massage every 4 weeks is generally optimal.  If you wish to come more often to alleviate stress and tension, help your body recover from activities or workouts, or for a personal self-care oe wellness, that’s absolutely fine too!

How will I feel after the massage?

If treating a condition, you may feel some discomfort related to the release of substances that make muscles sore.  This may require ice or heat application and will subside within approximately 3 days. If coming for maintenance or health care you will feel more flexible, relaxed and find you have a better nights sleep!
